Visualizing Your Models

A key advantage of using this SysML v2 editor is the seamless integration between text and vision. You don’t need to manually draw shapes; the SysML v2 tool handles the visualization for you. This section explains how to control, customize, and export your diagrams.

Generating and Navigating Diagrams

Diagrams are generated automatically as you type your SysML v2 code. If your code is syntactically correct, the SysML software will render the corresponding view in the Diagram Viewer pane.

  • To Zoom: Use your mouse scroll wheel or the pinch-to-zoom gesture on your trackpad while hovering over the diagram.
  • To Pan: Click and hold the left mouse button (in read-only mode) or the middle mouse button to drag the diagram canvas.
  • Fit to Screen: Use the “Fit” button in the diagram toolbar to instantly center and scale the diagram to fit your current pane size.

Configuring Diagram Details

This AI SysML tool allows you to control the level of detail displayed in your diagrams. Use the Diagram Menu Bar at the top of the viewer to toggle the following options:

  • Show Multiplicities: Toggle the display of multiplicities on nodes and edges to clarify system constraints.
  • Inherited Members: Choose whether to show elements inherited from parent definitions. This is useful for understanding the full scope of a specialized part.
  • Memberships in Compartments: Toggle whether to show nested elements inside a block’s compartment or as separate connected nodes.
  • Diagram Mode: Switch between Standard and Compact modes to manage the density of information on the screen.

Customizing Visual Layouts

To improve the readability of complex architectures, you can adjust the layout engine of the SysML editor:

  • Layout Direction: Change the flow of the diagram between Top-Down, Bottom-Up, Left-to-Right, or Right-to-Left.
  • Line Styles: Switch between Orthogonal (right-angled) lines for a clean, structured look, or Straight lines for direct connections.

Interactive Editing vs. Read-Only Mode

By default, the diagram viewer in this SysML v2 software is in Read-Only Mode to prevent accidental changes while navigating. To make manual adjustments:

  1. Click the Edit (Pencil) icon in the diagram toolbar.
  2. Acknowledge the warning; manual changes to the layout do not change the underlying code.
  3. You can now click and drag individual nodes or reroute edges to improve the visual presentation.
  4. Click the icon again to return to navigation mode.

Exporting for Documentation

Once you are satisfied with your model’s visual representation, you can export it for use in reports or presentations:

  1. Navigate to the Diagram Menu.
  2. Select Export as PNG for a high-quality raster image.
  3. Select Export as SVG for a scalable vector graphic that remains sharp at any size.

The AI SysML v2 editor ensures your diagrams are always a true reflection of your engineering data. Next, we will explore how to use the AI Assistant to accelerate your modeling process.
