Getting Started with the SysML v2 Editor

Welcome to the SysML v2 Editor. This guide will help you familiarize yourself with the interface layout and essential controls of this powerful SysML v2 software. Whether you are building your first model or managing a complex system architecture, understanding the workspace is the first step toward mastery.

Understanding the Interface Layout

The AI SysML v2 tool features a multi-pane workspace designed for high-efficiency modeling. The interface is divided into three primary sections:

1. The Navigation Pane (Left)

Located on the left side of the SysML editor, this pane provides access to your project assets and external resources:

  • Navigator (Cloud Explorer): Manage your files and folders, synchronize with the cloud, and organize your workspace.
  • Library: Browse standard SysML v2 (KerML) library definitions and built-in system models.
  • Model Tree: View the logical hierarchy of the model currently open in your editor.

2. The Workspace (Center)

This is the heart of the SysML v2 editor, where you spend most of your time authoring and visualizing models. It typically uses a split-view layout:

  • Tabbed Editor: A high-performance code editor for writing SysML v2 textual syntax. It supports multiple open files via a familiar tabbed interface.
  • Diagram Viewer: A dynamic canvas that automatically renders your code into visual SysML diagrams.

3. The Utility Panel (Right/Overlays)

Additional features like the AI Assistant and the Learning Center can be toggled to appear on the right or as overlays, providing intelligent guidance and help as you work in the AI SysML tool.

The Toolbar and Menu Bar

At the top of the SysML software, you will find essential controls for your session:

  • App Bar: Displays the project name and provides access to global settings and user profile information.
  • Diagram Menu Bar: Specifically for the diagram viewer, this allows you to change visual styles, export images, and adjust layout directions.

Personalizing Your Workspace

To ensure a comfortable modeling experience, this SysML v2 tool offers several personalization options:

Theme Selection

Switch between Light Mode and Dark Mode depending on your environment or preference. Most engineers prefer Dark Mode for long modeling sessions to reduce eye strain.

Focus and Fullscreen

Maximize your modeling area by entering Fullscreen Mode. You can also hide the left navigation pane or collapse the diagram viewer to focus entirely on your SysML v2 code.

Pane Resizing

The boundaries between the navigator, the editor, and the diagram viewer are interactive. Simply click and drag the dividers to customize the width and height of each pane to suit your screen size.

Now that you understand the layout, you are ready to start creating. Continue to the next section to learn about Project & File Management within the AI SysML v2 software.
